Artist Statement & Bio

I moved from WI to OR in my twenties and live with my husband in the Oregon countryside where we take pride in our National Wildlife Federation certified habitat. I work in watercolor, calligraphy, pastels, and collage, and enjoy exploring the ephemeral aspects of time and nature (flora and fauna), as well as introducing open-ended narrative themes. Happily, theme and technical skill often undergo an amazing alchemy that leads to intriguing art. People often ask, “How did you do that?”

I have a BS in Nursing, MS in Health Education, and toured/trained as a docent at the Portland Art Museum for over 15 years. I’ve taken numerous local, national and international art classes and have taught numerous watercolor and calligraphy classes through art galleries, the Hillsboro library system, the Watercolor Society of Oregon, the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, the Washington County Art alliance, and privately.

My art has been exhibited with the Watercolor Society of Oregon (where I have Signature Status), Western Federation of Watercolor Artists, Oregon Society of Artists, Portland Society for Calligraphy, Beaverton Celebration of Creativity, Beard’s Frame Shop, Seaside Fairweather Gallery, and Washington County Open Studio Weekend.
